Master’s & Dual Degree Programs

Educating teachers for over 35 years, the Sarah Lawrence College Art of Teaching program is an integrated Master of Science in Education (MS Ed) program of study that leads to triple New York State certification in Early Childhood Education (birth to grade 2), Childhood Education (1st to 6th grade), and Early Childhood Students with Disabilities.

Study child development in a program that offers a flexible course of study and well-established resources for hands-on learning. In the Master of Arts in Child Development program, students explore the lives of children as the interaction of intellectual, emotional, social, and imaginative streams. The program combines in-depth study of primary theoretical perspectives with practical fieldwork, and encourages students to study children in a wide range of social contexts and environments.

Sarah Lawrence’s distinctive two-year Master of Fine Arts in Dance takes a holistic approach to training dance artists through intensive, mentored creative work, movement practice, and analytic studies. Through exposure to vital aspects of the art form as performers, creators and scholars, this program will widen your definition of dance and performance, preparing you to construct a vital role for yourself as an artist in an ever-changing contemporary world.

Using an embodied, process-oriented approach to learning, the Sarah Lawrence Dance/Movement Therapy program is a 2-year Master’s degree that invites you to engage in critical thinking about the body, movement, and relationships. You will learn a way of thinking and being in the world that promotes interpersonal sensitivity, cultural dexterity, and an ability to effect change through listening, understanding, and engaging the whole being.

Join the world-renowned Joan H. Marks Graduate Program in Human Genetics at Sarah Lawrence College. Integrating education, healthcare, and humanism, this celebrated program prepares genetic counselors to work in a growing, dynamic field.

Sarah Lawrence College’s distinctive two-year MFA in Theatre is interdisciplinary, collaborative, and progressive. One of the few programs of its kind, your faculty will be renowned working artists, curators and organizers mostly based in NYC. Under their guidance, you’ll deepen your practice building new skills, hone your individual aesthetic voice and articulate your research to be able to work as a true theatre artist.

Sarah Lawrence’s nationally recognized MFA Writing program gives you the opportunity to work in close collaboration with faculty members who are both distinguished writers and devoted mentors. While we offer concentrations in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, or speculative fiction, students are encouraged to take classes outside their concentrations and to explore their writing fearlessly, transcending genres and positioning them for success in an ever-changing unbounded world.

The Dual Degree in the Art of Teaching and Child Development combines our pioneering strengths of teacher education for over 35 years and expertise in the field of Child Development for nearly 50 years. The combined program takes three years to complete and leads to a MSEd degree in the Art of Teaching and a MA degree in Child Development.

Sarah Lawrence College offers a Dual Degree in Child Development and Social Work with the Silver School of Social Work at New York University. Students in this program can pursue study leading to a master’s degree in Child Development and a master’s degree in Social Work.
