Continuing the strong historical partnership between Sarah Lawrence College and Westchester Community College (WCC), Sarah Lawrence has established a transfer partnership with WCC offering students who are interested in a teaching career a unique opportunity to complete both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in three years upon graduating from WCC. In this distinctive program, where both institutions are philosophically aligned in their approaches to early childhood and childhood education, Westchester Community College students applying as a transfer student with an Associate’s Degree to Sarah Lawrence will have the opportunity to apply for the Five Year Art of Teaching Master’s (MS Ed) degree program at the same time they are applying to the Bachelor’s program.
The Sarah Lawrence College Art of Teaching program is an integrated Master of Science in Education (MS Ed) program of study that leads to triple New York State certification in Early Childhood Education (birth to grade 2), Childhood Education (1st to 6th grade) and Early Childhood Students with Disabilities.
As a transfer student coming through this unique pathway, you will spend your junior year fully exploring the broad Sarah Lawrence liberal arts curriculum, supported by both an undergraduate faculty advisor (a “don”) and faculty from the Art of Teaching program. In your senior year, you will be taking both graduate and undergraduate courses working towards the completion of your Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon completion of your senior year, you will have just one additional year as a full-time graduate student to complete your MS Ed degree.
As part of our pilot program, Westchester Community College students transferring with an Associate’s degree may be eligible for up to a full tuition scholarship for the completion of both degree(s).
