The resources available for the The Visual and Studio Arts program located in the Heimbold Visual Arts Center include facilities for printmaking, photography, plaster, woodworking, painting, video making, and installation.
Painting Studio
Painting instruction ranges from introductory to experimental and takes place in a large, bright studio.
Photo Studio
The Heimbold Visual Arts Center is equipped with a darkroom with Omega 4x5 enlargers and print processing chemistry. as well as a digitalroom with Epson P9000 44” Inkjet printers and Mac mini computers.There is a photo studio with Profoto D1 monolights (x2), Alien Bee strobe and seamless backdrops.
Available to students is a film digitization system that utilizes an advanced copy stand. It is comprised of a Fuji digital camera, Schneider macro lens, and custom made film holders. Working in conjunction with software from Adobe and Negative Lab Pro, students are able to create the digital files from their film which surpass the scanners of yesteryear while maintaining the experience of being in the darkroom.
PrintMaking Studio
Printmaking Resources at Heimbold include a Takach #3460 Etching Press, Charles Brand Etching Press, Dorris Litho Press and a Vandercook SP-15 Letterpress. Other equipment provided for students: Richmond Graphics Silk Screen Exposure Unit, RegalArkay Stainless S Processing sink, hand tools, acetates, cutting mats and assorted studio accessories.
Plaster Studio
The center houses facilities for working three dimensional media with studios and workshops for plaster and ceramics.
Wood Working and Welding
The resources available within the Heimbold include facilities for woodworking and metal work.
Advanced Studios
Advanced studios offer individual work areas. In addition to art studios, students have access to critique and presentation rooms and exhibition spaces.
The Gallery at Heimbold Visual Arts Center
The mission of The Gallery at Heimbold Visual Arts Center is to cultivate appreciation and understanding of the arts and to foster creativity and intellectual growth in ways that reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the Visual and Studio Arts program. Through rotating exhibitions, artist lectures, hands-on workshops, and regular publications, The Gallery at Heimbold Visual Arts Center seeks to bridge the classroom with the art world. Our programming supports a diverse range of artists in terms of gender, race, perspectives, methodologies, and disciplines, whose works inform and challenge our students and the community. Primarily a teaching gallery, we involve students in all aspects of our exhibition programming—installation, curation, artist lecture selection and preparation, and collaborative publication efforts—simultaneously supporting our students, the teaching artists within the college, and the vibrant community surrounding us.
Barbara Walters Gallery
Located on the second floor of The Barbara Walters Campus Center, the space is rich with natural light and will house exhibits throughout the academic year. The mission of the Barbara Walters Gallery is to promote the arts as well as dialogue around the issues currently engaging our community, including not just our faculty, staff, and students, but also our alums and neighbors.
