Spiritual Life supports all students in seeking guidance on spiritual and ethical questions, helping develop their values, and navigating their inherited belief systems. Spiritual Life serves students of all faith traditions and spiritual backgrounds, including those with no background or affiliation. Spiritual Life offers programming to promote spiritual exploration, brave dialogue, and kinship across worldviews. Spiritual Life also works with Community Partnerships on broadening our network of religious and spiritual community resources in Bronxville, Yonkers, and Westchester for Sarah Lawrence students.
The primary role of the Director of Spiritual Life is to accompany students in their grief, healing, celebrations, and meaning making. They utilize the chaplaincy framework of a "ministry of presence" to come alongside students during their time at Sarah Lawrence College.
Spiritual Space
Spiritual Life oversees the Spiritual Space in the HUB. The Spiritual Space is open to all students from 7 AM - 2 AM every day. It is a quiet atmosphere for contemplation, meditation, prayer and being. The Spiritual Space includes an ablution area, a newly updated religious/spiritual library, and storage for religious and spiritual items. It can be reserved as a meeting place for religious student organizations and spiritually-based events.
Kosher/Halal Kitchen
Spiritual Life also oversees the Kosher/Halal Kitchen in the HUB. The Kosher/Halal Kitchen is for exclusive use for those who keep kosher or halal diets. The kosher cooking in the kitchen is vegetarian. To use this kitchen, students must complete training and sign an agreement for appropriate use.
