California has long been a state with strong ties to Sarah Lawrence, and many of our current students, families, alumni, and prospective students have been deeply affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles County. The College is working to support these individuals in a variety of ways, including:
- Registration assistance as students navigate the online class selection process prior to the start of the semester
- Guidance from our Financial Aid team on changed circumstances and immediate needs with respect to students’ financial aid
- Facilitating an early return to campus prior to the start of the semester if necessary
- Securing housing for students who were previously planning to study away but have changed their plans
- Mental health support through the counseling staff at our Health & Wellness Center
As application deadlines approach, the Admission team has reached out to prospective students in the Los Angeles area to offer extensions and assistance. The Office of Alumni Relations is actively checking on alumni in the affected region as well.
Members of the Sarah Lawrence Community who wish to help those in need are encouraged to review Charity Navigator’s list of highly-rated 501(c)(3) organizations that are providing immediate and long-term assistance to those affected by the wildfires across Los Angeles County.
In addition, GoFundMe pages have been set up by or for some of our current students who have been deeply affected by the fires. With their permission, those links are available on MySLC for those members of our community who wish to provide immediate, direct assistance to these students.
As a reminder, counseling services are available to all students through the Health & Wellness Center, and 24-hour mental health support is available through TELUS via the app or by calling 1-866-743-7732.
