When Chris Ehmer took the helm as the head coach for the men's basketball team at Sarah Lawrence, he had seven players and not one of them had played high school basketball, and the school was not yet an NCAA Division III institution. Fast forward to today, and Ehmer has successfully transformed the team into a formidable Division III force, as the Gryphons have become known for their competitiveness on the court and their dedication to academic rigor.
While coaching at the All-Academic Basketball Camp, a camp focused on high school student-athletes aspiring to play basketball at high academic colleges across all NCAA divisions, Ehmer discussed his unique approach to recruiting with West Coast Elite’s The Elite Podcast. He says that when it comes to his recruiting strategy, academics and character come before athletics, “I think the people we have coming to Sarah Lawrence are drawn to that and respect that”.
