Dear Members of the Sarah Lawrence Community,
I often take the opportunity in From the President’s Desk to share my experience of our students: their boundless creativity, their intellectual curiosity, and their incredible talent. On this October Study Day—an important break at the midpoint of our semester—and at a moment when we are all grappling with the complexities of the world and of life on a college campus, it feels particularly important to celebrate what is at the heart of everything we do at SLC: our students.
Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to experience some of our undergraduate students firsthand as we celebrate the premiere of Sarah Lawrence’s episode of The College Tour on Amazon Prime. Now in its 10th season, The College Tour tells the stories of colleges and universities around the world. A resource for prospective students and college counselors, it’s a terrific way to introduce Sarah Lawrence to a wider audience. For our alumni, I think you’ll be impressed as you meet some of today’s students while also enjoying a bit of a stroll down memory lane as you watch their stories.
What makes The College Tour such an authentic glimpse into life at SLC is how student driven the production is. To launch the project, we invited students to submit video auditions and to share what they’d like the world to know about Sarah Lawrence. From dozens of submissions, 10 students were selected for our 30-minute episode. They partnered with our Marketing & Communications team and The College Tour’s production team to brainstorm segment topics, write their own scripts, recruit friends and faculty to be featured in their segments, and film for a week last April.
(I was happy to have a “cameo” of my own to extol the values and virtues of the College in a “Coffee (or in my case “Tea”) with the President” segment, which you can watch here.)
I am confident that you will come away from watching our episode of The College Tour sharing my pride in our students and all that they accomplish, both as individuals and as close collaborators with each other and with our exceptional faculty and staff. (And you won’t be surprised to discover that our students are terrific story tellers with great production values!) After watching, I hope you’ll share it with friends, family, and colleagues to spread the word about our exceptional students and this amazing college.
Thank you for being an important part of our community, for your ongoing support, and for the many ways in which you help make Sarah Lawrence the extraordinary institution that it is. I am immensely proud of our students, and I am so excited that we have the chance to highlight a few of their incredible stories through The College Tour.
Yours,
Cristle Collins Judd
