The topic of racial justice in schools has been met with significant disagreement in the last few years. Educators’ efforts to promote and discuss race and discrimination in public schools have been complicated. There’s political pushback from a handful of states seeking to restrict discussions of race in public schools entirely, and others believing that K-12 schools should do more to expand the curricula. Denisha Jones, faculty member in Sarah Lawrence's Art of Teaching master's program, and executive director of the early-childhood nonprofit Defending the Early Years spoke with U.S. News & World Report about the role of racial justice in education and ways in which schools can approach this subject.
