Now in its 24th year, Writers Week at Sarah Lawrence College offers creative young people an immersive week-long opportunity to engage with creative writing and the performance arts. Two sessions will be offered this year: July 10-14 will take place virtually and August 7-11 will take place on campus.
Presented by the College’s Writing Institute and Theatre program, Writers Week is open to students entering the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades in the fall of 2023. Students must be age 14 or older at the start of the program.
In both the virtual and campus sessions, participants will attend writing and theatre workshops led by prose writers, poets, and performance artists. Included in the week are mini-workshops taught by program faculty, graduate students, and guest artists. Rooted in the Sarah Lawrence tradition of one-on-one interaction, the program offers students the opportunity to meet in small groups with workshop leaders; classes are limited to 18 students, with two teaching artists per workshop. The week also features instructor and student readings and guest authors, and culminates in a celebration of student work on the final day.
