During the pandemic lockdowns, 90-year-old poet, author, and oldest living person with cerebral palsy Nina Gibans '54 was not only stuck indoors but could not even travel between the floors of the assisted living facility where she resides. Thanks to the Internet, she was able to escape back into the world by way of virtual concerts, movies, and online poetry workshops. Gibans documented her experiences living in total isolation, resulting in the release of two new books. Pandora’s Box focuses on hope and her participation in a study on cerebral palsy in older people, and Postcards to Myself is a collection of 90 poems commemorating her 90th birthday.
