The Princeton Review’s annual Best 385 Colleges Guide continues to recognize Sarah Lawrence College as a leader in undergraduate liberal arts education and classroom experience, naming it #1 for “Professors Get High Marks” and #4 in “Best Classroom Experience.”
“I am happy to see that The Princeton Review continues to highlight integral components of a Sarah Lawrence education, from time spent in the classroom with professors, to the engagement and awareness that is representative of our student body,” said Sarah Lawrence President Cristle Collins Judd. “As these rankings indicate, Sarah Lawrence is a small school with an outsized impact. Our education allows students to discover and deepen their interests through the curriculum, connecting their passions to create their future beyond college.”
In portions of published surveys administered by The Princeton Review, current students say their professors are “extremely accessible,” that they “talk to us almost like colleagues,” and they “use what we have to say to steer us in a direction for further enrichment.” The Review also notes that “students are creative, talented, and hardworking, but above all else they are passionate, and their passions are fully interwoven in their art and coursework.”
Only about 13% of America’s 3,000 four-year colleges are profiled in the guide. The company chooses colleges based on data it annually collects from administrators at hundreds of colleges about their institutions’ academic offerings. The Princeton Review also considers data it gathers from its surveys of college students who rate and report on various aspects of their campus and community experiences for this project. The rankings in the 2020 edition are based on the company’s surveys of 140,000 students at the 385 schools in the book.
