Kenneth Tam is a Brooklyn-based artist born in Queens, NY. His work often takes the form of video and sculpture and it's interested in reimagining the spaces and rituals that inform ideas about the male body and its performance. The work looks at ways in which hegemonic and normative forms of male subjectivity can be rearticulated to reveal spaces of intimacy vulnerability and even loss.
Kenneth received his BFA from the Cooper Union, and his MFA from the University of Southern California. He’s had solo exhibitions at the Minneapolis Institute of Art; MIT List Center for Visual Arts, Boston; Commonwealth and Council, LA; and Night Gallery, LA. He had a solo exhibition at the Visual Arts Center at UT Austin in fall of 2019, that will be a presentation of his various projects from the last three years. In 2020 he will be presenting newly commissioned works at both The Queens Museum and at The Kitchen.
Kenneth has participated in recent group shows at 47 Canal, NY; Hollybush Gardens, London, UK; and Made in L.A.: a, the, though, only, Hammer Museum, LA, and is included in the most recent InPractice exhibition at SculptureCenter. He has participated in residencies including Artist Lab at 18th Street Arts Center, Santa Monica, CA; LMCC Workspace; The Core Residency Program at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX and is currently in-residence at Pioneer Works. He is the recipient of various awards including the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant; California Community Foundation Fellowship; and Art Matters Foundation Grant. Kenneth is currently Guest Faculty at Sarah Lawrence College and a Lecturer at Princeton University.
