Join us for a special Music Tuesday concert event: A reading of the Schumann quintet with the Ying Quartet and pianist and Sarah Lawrence music faculty member Martin Goldray in honor of Jean Wentworth.
The Ying Quartet is the first visiting ensemble of the Jean Wentworth Music Residency, established by the Wentworth family in memory of revered concert pianist and music faculty member emerita Jean Wentworth. Now in its third decade, the Ying Quartet is renowned and revered in the classical music world, and their performances often take place in many of the world's most important concert halls. The Quartet's members are: Robin Scott, violin; Janet Ying, violin; Philip Ying, viola; and David Ying, cello. Learn more about the Ying Quartet
Well known as a Debussy scholar, Jean Wentworth was also highly respected for her performances of solo, chamber, and orchestral works by Debussy, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Bartok, and many more. She taught piano, chamber music, and music history at the College for more than 40 years. The Jean Wentworth Music Residency will bring performing musicians of distinction to campus to work with students in program areas of music and beyond, and to offer cross-disciplinary engagement and audience building. Each semester, the residency will culminate in a concert open to all students, the campus community, and the public. Read a tribute to Jean Wentworth from the spring issue of Sarah Lawrence magazine
