The Wrexham Road Reading Series brings together writers from within and beyond the Sarah Lawrence College community. We're looking forward to hosting authors Saida Agostini, Moncho Alvadaro MFA '15, Jeanna Kadlec and Noué Kirwan. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Saida Agostini is a queer Afro-Guyanese poet whose work explores the ways that Black folks harness mythology to enter the fantastic. Saida’s first collection of poems, let the dead in, was a finalist for the Center of African American Poetry & Poetics’ 2020 Book Prize as well as the New Issues Poetry Prize. She is the author of STUNT (Neon Hemlock, October 2020), a chapbook exploring the history of Nellie Jackson, a Black woman entrepreneur who operated a brothel for sixty years in Natchez, Mississippi. Her poetry can also be found in the Black Ladies Brunch Collective's anthology Not Without Our Laughter, Barrelhouse Magazine, Hobart Pulp, Plume, and other publications. A Cave Canem Graduate Fellow, Saida has been awarded honors and support for her work by the Watering Hole and Blue Mountain Center, as well as a 2018 Rubys Grant funding travel to Guyana to support the completion of her first manuscript. She is a Best of the Net Finalist and a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee.
Moncho Alvarado MFA '15 is a sister-in-residence in air, a Cihuayollotl trans woman Xicanx poet, translator, visual artist, and educator. She is the author of Greyhound Americans (Saturnalia Books 2022), which was the winner of the 2020 Saturnalia Book Prize, selected by Diane Seuss. She has been published in Meridian, Foglifter, Lunch Ticket, 2018 Emerge Lambda Fellows Anthology, Poets.org, and other publications. She is a recipient of fellowships and residencies from The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, Lambda Literary, Poets House, Troika House, the Summer Seminar at Sarah Lawrence College, and won the Academy of American Poet’s John B. Santoianni award for excellence in poetry. She is a Pushcart nominated and has been awarded the Thomas Lux Scholarship for dedication to teaching, demonstrated through writing workshops with youths in Sunnyside Community Services in Queens, New York. Moncho has earned an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College. She spends time between Queens, NY with her partner and Pacoima, CA with their family.
Jeanna Kadlec is a writer, astrologer, former lingerie boutique owner, and recovering academic. Her writing has appeared in ELLE, NYLON, O the Oprah Magazine, Allure, Catapult, Literary Hub, Autostraddle, and more. A born and bred Midwesterner, she now lives in Brooklyn. Noué Kirwan is a Manhattanborn/Bronx, NY native, raised between there and the Bay Area of Northern California. She received a B.A. in Communications from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In the early-2000s, she wrote pop culture critiques for an online urban lifestyle magazine under the HBO/Time Warner media umbrella. Her debut novel, LONG PAST SUMMER, was published in August 2022.
