Join us for a conversation with feminist economists Yana Van Der Meulen Rodgers (Rutgers University), Mayra Pineda Torres (Georgia Institute of Technology) and Kimberly Christensen (Sarah Lawrence College) for a discussion of the economic impact of the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade. Topics to be discussed include the differential impact by race and class, the impact on poverty rates, and the impact on women’s educational attainment, labor force participation, and economic trajectories.

A panel of Art of Teaching Alumni who have gone on to found their own early childhood programs will share their journeys. They will discuss the vision, values and inspiration behind their programs, the process of making them realities, and how what they learned in the Art of Teaching program helped prepare them for all of this. The panel will be moderated by Jerusha Beckerman, Interim Director of Art of Teaching.

Structured around the work of Yasser Alwan (1964-2022), scholars and practitioners from the arts, humanities and social sciences will come together to address questions of photography, representation, archives, and history making. While the focus will primarily, though not exclusively, be on Egypt and the Middle East, the issues raised will have relevance well beyond those borders.

Nathan McClain is the author of Scale (Four Way Books, 2017), a recipient of fellowships from the Sewanee Writers' Conference, The Frost Place, and the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. Previously, he taught creative writing at Seton Hall, Drew University, and St. Joseph's College, as well as poetry workshops for the Cave Canem Foundation. His poems and prose have recently appeared or are forthcoming in New York Times Magazine, upstreet, American Poets, The Rumpus, and Hunger Mountain, among others. Nathan is currently an assistant professor of creative writing and African American literary arts at Hampshire College.

In this FREE virtual workshop, participants will learn from SLC’s experts how to develop an advocacy action plan with the goal of bringing about social and/or organizational change on behalf of a particular health goal, program, interest, or population. Participants will learn how to get started, identify stakeholders, and develop “asks” and messages. Participants will have the opportunity to write a Letter to the Editor or OpEd on an issue of their choice.

Join us for an Athletics Hall of Fame Induction at the Campbell Sports Center. The Athletics department will be inducting Cameron Martinez ’16 (Swimming), Kathryn "Kitty" O’Sullivan ’15 (Volleyball), Tara Passoni ’98 (Crew), and Akash Radia ’10 (Soccer) into the Gryphons Hall of Fame! Refreshments will be served. Saturday is Homecoming (SLC style) and you won’t want to miss the Gryphons in action. The Swim team hits the pool at 1:00 PM, the Women's Basketball team plays at 5 p.m., and the Men's Basketball team tips off at 7:30 PM. The Hall of Fame Induction and reception takes place between the basketball games. Registration is required to attend the Hall of Fame Induction celebration.

Set Theory revolutionized mathematics, starting with Georg Cantor's work on infinity. This talk will be about 4 important topics in set theory: ordinals, cardinals, the cumulative hierarchy, and the axioms and how to visualize each of them. We will see art from around the world depicting ordinals, including art from Sarah Lawrence students. We will also look at some of the larger infinities -- large cardinals -- in particular, the worldly cardinals and the inaccessible cardinals.

Erin Carmody received her PhD in Mathematics from the CUNY Graduate Center, focusing on research in set theory. After graduating, she held visiting professor positions at Nebraska Wesleyan University and Emory University, and was a lecturer at Fordham University. She is currently a guest faculty member in Mathematics at Sarah Lawrence College.
