Literary agent Ashley Lopez will talk us through the basic do’s and don’ts around drafting query letters, including recognizing if you’re ready to query agents and how to find an agent’s client list and manuscript wish-list. Students will walk away with an understanding of a basic query letter structure they can adapt and personalize, as well as several examples of successful query letters

Coinciding with the installation of In the Room, a group exhibition on collective memory and contemporary photography, Sarah Lawrence will host a special conversation with featured artists Jonathan Mark Jackson and Ashley M. Freeby, along with Professor Mary Dillard and Ashley Hart Adams, who leads the Enslaved People Project at the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance. 

Years ago a professor gave me this assignment: find an animal and observe it over the course of several days. This seemed straightforward, and honestly a little boring, but I chose a great blue heron and, well, it changed everything. For me being a writer revolved around the pleasant drudgery of daily typing, but here was something different.

Helen Phillips will read from her most recent novel, HUM, a work of speculative fiction set in the near-future. She will then take audience questions about the book and her writing process, with a particular focus on craft-related matters.

The Faculty Spotlight Series March event features Ryan Palmer, the Director Of CURB (Center for the Urban River at Beczak). He'll discuss the impact of CURB on the Yonkers community, teaching local students about the environment, and creating a vibrant and accessible research center.

Come by the Library's Rainbow Reading Room, grab a cup of coffee and cookies, and listen to a great discussion about this vital program.

This craft talk will include, by way of definition, classic and contemporary examples of this quintessential Japanese genre. A few "in-class" exercises will be included.
