Welcome, welcome to the graduating class of 2016, to your parents, your friends and your relatives, and to honored guests who have joined with us to celebrate one of life’s greatest milestones.
I bring greetings from the Board of Trustees to each member of the undergraduate class receiving the degrees being awarded today. It is a special time for you and we wish each of you a long and gratifying life that builds on your experience of learning at the most unique and one of the world’s most intellectually robust colleges.
I also bring a very personal thanks from the Board of Trustees to our distinguished speaker, Mo Rocca, a personal friend for over 25 years from the days when he was a block mate of my daughter Shannon at Harvard. To be sure, his own career is a spectacular example of the opportunities open to the graduates who sit before us today, of the incredible variety of careers for which an education, like ours, has prepared our students. If I did not know his history, I would have sworn that he received his undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College.
Mo, I can’t think of a better commencement speaker to commemorate my final graduation ceremony as Chairman of the Sarah Lawrence Board. I thank you for your friendship, your humor, your intelligence, the example you provide to both young and old alike, and for your presence here this morning.
Thank you.
