Happily, announcements submitted to Sarah Lawrence magazine’s Alumni Publications section have increased greatly in recent years. Unfortunately, our “real estate” in the magazine can’t grow to match.
So we’ve adopted the following guidelines in an attempt to illustrate the breadth of alumni accomplishments fairly. And while we can only include a sampling in the print magazine, many more can be featured in the SLC magazine online. We’re proud of our creative and prolific alumni, and we welcome your thoughts on these guidelines.
Representative Mix
The Alumni Publications section of the magazine includes an intentional mix of class years, genres, and topics, as well as both debut and established authors.
Publication Date
Excepting unusual circumstances, the magazine features recent books published no more than one year before the issue mails, as well as forthcoming books that will be published at least one month before the issue mails (usually mid-April and mid-October). We recommend submitting announcements by December 1 for the spring issue and June 15 for the fall issue.
Book Format
The magazine announces full-length publications, so poetry chapbooks, individual stories, anthology chapters, and the like are not included. In general, books published through a publishing house and books in print are prioritized over those self-published or published electronically.
Reviews
Books that have received popular or critical acclaim are usually prioritized.
Cover Image
Though we don’t have space to publish every cover, to be considered for inclusion in the magazine, authors should submit a high-resolution digital image of the front cover (300 dpi at least 3 x 5 inches in dimension).
Additional Opportunities to Share Your Work
Regardless of inclusion in the magazine, all alumni who send news of their books are featured on the Alumni News webpage.
We also encourage alumni to share news of their work via our social media outlets: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
