Genomics is in an age of great scientific advancement and technological discovery which carry the potential to deliver upon the promise of precision medicine. However, our ability as a society to realize the benefits of genomics science in an ethical and equitable way is being challenged by the limits of a workforce created for a very different landscape. At the Institute for Genomics Education, Workforce & Leadership, our aim is to identify and build awareness for the most critical genomics workforce gaps by having real conversations across the industry about what genomics and genetics training is necessary to meet the promise of precision medicine.
In the Genomics Institute blog, we’ll explore the critical genomics workforce gaps leading to inequities and disparities in genomics healthcare and highlight the ways in which Sarah Lawrence College is responding to these needs.
