Recognizing the critical role that Sarah Lawrence’s dedicated faculty play in providing our distinctive academic approach, the Campaign was committed to raising funds to endow faculty chairs and professorships; fund faculty scholarship, initiatives, and development; and ensure that our academic programs continue to flourish.
Endowed professorships were created in environmental studies, history, economics, and religion, as well as an endowed visiting professorship in environmental writing. Endowed chairs in writing and in environmental architecture and sustainable design were also established, with $17 million in endowed faculty support raised in total.
Our donors also made strategic gifts to help advance our goals across many disciplines and to establish or support exciting programs that are providing students with opportunities to further their studies and develop exceptional creative and research skills.
Gifts made in support of academic initiatives were diverse and carefully considered. They ranged from an endowed music fund to provide music lessons for students who are not pursuing a “music third,” to gifts for the Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB), an alliance of Sarah Lawrence and the Beczak Environmental Education Center, a regional hub for research and monitoring focused on the Hudson River estuary and urban watershed issues.
Other endowment gifts support the Child Development Institute and the 10-week Summer Science Undergraduate Research Program, while critically important and wide-reaching endowed funds were established to support faculty research and development across disciplines.
"Donors have demonstrated their deep belief in the singular education we make possible through the commitment of our incomparable faculty by endowing support for professorships and academic chairs, and for foundational and emerging fields of study.”
