I began drawing as a kid while my dad worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer as an Editor of the Sunday magazine; occasionally he couldn’t take me along to review movies or other events, so he’d leave me with Tony Auth, the political cartoonist who won numerous Pulitzer prizes.
During later years I discovered Thomas Nast (of the post-Civil War era), and along with consuming daily newspaper comics, and the developing field of “graphic novels”, I developed an insatiable desire to learn about artists whose work inspired me. I’ve finally found resisting my true love impossible and make time to draw more than ever before, following a 25-year career as a public school English teacher. Nowadays, I explore ideas using a fusion of verbal and visual means, and hope to do much more in the near future!
