I began painting abstracts in the fall of 2001, after a serious car accident. My Environmental Studies classes in college informed the focus of most of my photography and painting explorations which revolve around the relationship between the mind/psyche and landscapes (including constructed, natural, and social-political landscapes). I aim to create visual experiences that represent how the mind/self and different manifestations of space are inextricably tied. These ‘spaces,’ in turn, inform and shape one another.
"Going Toward God: Warfare"
2007
Oil, Pastel, Glitter
So often war is fought in the name of a higher power, at the high cost of human lives. Chaos, destruction and the transition of souls from the earthly plane were themes I explored in this piece. I meditated on the various forms of war while creating this piece, including the battles we fight within ourselves.
"Ballerina"

The themes I explored in this piece included: My complex relationship to dance, the influence my mother had on my interest and path as a dancer, the transcendental aspects of the dance experience, body image, and the contrast between the mindset of a dancer verse the social image of a dancer.
