Adrienne Dawes ’04

Casta, a bilingual hybrid performance piece by Adrienne Dawes ’04, premieres in The Blanton Museum of Art (200 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd) this fall alongside exhibit Painted Cloth: Fashion and Ritual in Colonial Latin America, which will feature casta paintings from Lima and Puebla. Casta is inspired by a series of casta paintings by Miguel Cabrera. Casta paintings were a unique form of portraiture that grew in popularity over the 18^th century in Nueva España that depicted different racial mixtures arranged according to a hierarchy defined by Spanish elites. Performances will run from November 2-21.
