Tell us about your international journey. Where is home for you?
I was born and have spent my entire life in Tbilisi, Georgia (the country, not the state).
What made you choose SLC?
My dream has always been to study in the US. A representative from Sarah Lawrence held an information session for my high school via Zoom and that's how I found out about it. I applied, got in, and received a merit-based international scholarship. I chose to attend SLC because of its great location, open curriculum, small class sizes, donning system, and diverse student body.
What are your concentrations?
Economics and Computer Science. I am interested in the intersection of law, economics and technology.
What kinds of extracurriculars or activities have you participated in?
My freshman year, I was a Student Activities Subcommittee (SAS) representative in the Student Senate, a treasurer for Democracy Matters, and I volunteered for Hearts&Homes for Refugees. During my sophomore year, I'll be the Student Senate Chair, a Resident Advisor in Hill House, and a chair/intern at Democracy Matters.
How would you describe your SLC experience so far?My SLC experience has been great so far—I love my don and all my other professors. Sarah Lawrence is where I discovered my love for economics and computer science, met some really inspirational people, enjoyed my time exploring New York City, and am looking forward to the years to come.
What is the SLC community like?
Some of the kindest, most supportive, welcoming, social, and positive people I've met in my life are Sarah Lawrence students. The community at Sarah Lawrence is truly what makes it feel like home.
What are some of your favorite things to do at SLC? Where are some of your favorite places to go off campus? Do you have a favorite meal?
I enjoy walking around Bronxville and hanging out in the Barb with my friends. I take the train to Manhattan quite often, mostly to visit museums and walk around Central Park with my friends. I also like to do my homework at the NYC Public Library once in a while. My favorite meal at Sarah Lawrence would have to be the Bates tacos on Taco Tuesday.
What advice do you have for international students applying to SLC?
During the application process, try to show what makes you special, what your interests are, and how you see yourself growing and learning at Sarah Lawrence. For those international students who've gotten into SLC already: explore your interests, take advantage of the open curriculum, enjoy the perks of being so close to New York City, and get ready, cause you're in for a wonderful ride!
