Tell us about your international journey. Where is home for you?
I was born and raised in the sunny, beautiful country of Tanzania in Eastern Africa. My international journey began when I received a scholarship to attend United World College of South East Asia in Singapore for the last two years of high school. This opportunity opened doors for me, allowing me to apply and be accepted to Sarah Lawrence College in the United States. These experiences have been transformative, exposing me to diverse cultures and perspectives. In my opinion living and studying in different parts of the world has not only enriched my education but also deepened my understanding of the global community and my place within it.
What made you choose SLC?
I chose Sarah Lawrence College for several reasons. The non-confined curriculum allows me to pursue my main interest in economics and math, while also exploring and discovering other educational passions, which was very appealing to me. The proximity to New York City was another significant factor in my decision. I hope to continue on an economics or finance path post-grad, and being near NYC provides numerous opportunities. The city's incredible diversity also played a key role; it acts as a mini-global hub where I can experience different cultures, making the transition from home easier. Additionally, the professor-student ratio at SLC stood out to me. I had heard wonderful things about how involved professors are in students' personal development, which I find rare at the college level. These aspects combined made Sarah Lawrence College the perfect choice for me.
How would you describe your SLC experience so far?
At Sarah Lawrence College, I've been actively involved in several extracurricular activities and student unions. I've participated in groups such as WOCU (Women of Color Union), SOCA (Students of Color Alliance), and SLC Harambe. These organizations have provided me with a sense of community and a platform to engage with important issues. Additionally, through SLC connections, I've had the opportunity to volunteer with the New York International Children's Film Festival. This experience has been enriching, allowing me to interact with people in the film industry and fellow film enthusiasts. I'm also excited to start my role as a resident advisor this year, which I believe will be a great way to further connect with my SLC community.

What is the SLC community like?
The Sarah Lawrence College community is incredibly supportive and vibrant. Transitioning to the US was challenging, but the kindness and help from various members of the SLC community made it much easier. From my amazing don and the international students' directors to my professors, classmates, resmates, and roommates, everyone has played a part in making me feel welcomed and supported. In just a few months, I've made friends who bring me joy, growth, and a sense of belonging. The community is filled with individuals who are passionate about many things and eager to share their interests while also engaging with and learning from yours. The ever-vocal and dynamic student body makes SLC a place of continuous interaction and personal development.
What are some of your favorite things to do at SLC? Where are some of your favorite places to go off campus? Do you have a favorite meal?
Some of my favorite activities at SLC include participating in SLC traditions like movie nights on North Lawn and attending events organized by various student clubs. These spontaneous gatherings and pop-up events are always exciting and a great way to discover new interests and connect with others. Off campus, one of my favorite places to visit is a birria truck my friends and I discovered in Queens. The second we taste their consomé, it makes the journey very much worthwhile, and it's become a cherished spot for us, when we feel like sticking a bit close to campus Dumpling + Noodle is another favorite, offering us affordable and hearty meals. And when I'm craving something to doordash, my go to has to be any Halal Guys.
